The past two years have brought an unprecedented wave of investment sweeping across the entire data platform landscape. Industry heavyweights including Databricks, Snowflake, Salesforce and other major players have poured billions into acquiring cutting-edge database and data governance technologies — and this spending spree is far from random. It is a clear, resounding signal of a fundamental shift underway in the enterprise data ecosystem.

We have officially moved past the era of the “single system wins all” model. For decades, the enterprise data stack
evolved by layering in specialized, siloed platforms: dedicated tools for transaction processing, standalone solutions for data analytics, separate systems for governance and compliance, and isolated environments for AI experimentation. This fragmented approach functioned effectively when enterprise workloads were predictable, clearly segmented, and divided by distinct timelines and functional purposes.Agentic AI has upended this long-standing framework entirely.

Autonomous AI agents break down the traditional boundaries that once separated discrete workloads. Within a single, seamless workflow, these agents can retrieve real-time enterprise data, conduct deep analysis, make autonomous decisions, and execute targeted actions — all without the manual handoffs and system gaps that defined legacy data operations.

Today’s enterprises require a unified AI and data constitution: a sovereign, integrated foundation where analytics, core data operations, and AI initiatives are governed cohesively by design. In this new era, market leaders will no longer be defined by a single best-in-class standalone capability. Instead, victory will belong to those organizations that securely converge cross-functional capabilities, break down internal silos, and operate as one unified, sovereign data and AI platform.

Convergence can't be built on fragmentation

Many analytics-first platforms are now racing downstack, adding or acquiring operational database

capabilities to complete the agentic picture. But this "convergence by attachment" can introduce friction:

  • Duplicated data across systems

  • Data ping-pong between warehouses and operational stores

  • Unpredictable latency

  • Fragmented governance

  • Runaway token and compute costs


This matters because agents amplify inefficiency. Every extra second of latency compounds across multistep

Through integration with Apache Spark accelerated by NVIDIA cuDF, EDB's analytics engine can offload

  • GPU-based workload isolation to protect operational query performance

  • Support for lakehouse architectures and governance capabilities via Apache Iceberg


This allows agents to query and synthesize terabytes of data in seconds rather than hours, supporting

conversational analytics, real-time decisioning, and multi-agent orchestration without duplicating data

across warehouses and lakes, and without the user ever having to leave Postgres.


Sovereign infrastructure will define the AI platform winners


The race to build and deploy agentic AI is no longer centered on analyzing greater volumes of data. Its core focus has shifted: it is now about empowering AI systems to act on enterprise-grade data safely, reliably, and with full predictability.

Consider this analogy: you do not fit a car with brakes only after it has hit top speed. The same rule applies to agentic AI infrastructure — governance, data sovereignty, strict workload isolation, and full auditability cannot be afterthoughts. These critical pillars must be engineered into the very core of the system from its initial design phase.

In the agentic era, convergence is not just a strategy, but a foundational architectural principle. Data sovereignty translates directly to operational control.
