HPE has refreshed its Alletra X10000 with a proprietary native file system, alongside new AI assistance for the Alletra B10000 object storage platform, plus upgraded Zerto data protection and Data Fabric migration software.
First unveiled in 2023, HPE’s GreenLake private cloud file storage originally adopted VAST Data’s OEM file system for the Alletra X10000 disaggregated storage array. The firm has now launched its in-house developed file system, as stated by Jim O’Dorisio, HPE Storage SVP and GM, which runs alongside the platform’s existing object storage capability. The native file system enables tighter integration to build a hybrid-cloud data services layer and deliver intelligent data analytics for enterprise users.
The new file system supports file-based RDMA, complementing its existing S3 over RDMA object storage capability. O’Dorisio noted the entire unstructured storage platform is built on a key-value store designed for intelligent workloads. Initially launched for object storage, the newly added file service delivers equivalent performance, with both functions operating as independent namespaces on the unified platform.
POSIX-compliant and compatible with NFS v4.1, the file system is not targeted at conventional file workloads. Instead, it prioritizes AI-centric workloads, backed by HPE’s Nvidia partnerships. Existing VAST-based file system users can continue using their current builds with no mandatory upgrades.
O’Dorisio highlighted that hybrid file-and-object architecture has become mainstream for enterprises, especially for AI workloads. The X10000’s native software is built on a Kubernetes-based disaggregated scale-out architecture. Its newly released Data Intelligence Node generates vector embeddings upon data ingestion and embeds an in-platform vector database.
Scalable to 16 compute nodes and 16 storage nodes with 23PB raw capacity, the upgraded X10000 provides a 100% data availability guarantee and supports MCP protocols.
AI Assistants for B10000
HPE has rolled out v10.6.0 firmware for its Alletra B10000 object storage, embedding agentic AI to autonomously detect, analyze and resolve infrastructure faults. Moving beyond traditional signature-based analytics, it leverages semantic understanding and adaptive reasoning to proactively mitigate risks before escalation.
Four coordinated AI agents power the system: real-time anomaly detection, root-cause analysis, remedial recommendation, and autonomous remediation. These agents leverage telemetry data, industry best practices and global operational insights for intelligent decision-making.
The B10000 offers a 5:1 data reduction guarantee for lower TB costs. It now supports controller node expansion in single-node increments from four to six nodes, delivering 50% performance gains with dual-node fault tolerance.
HPE also added AI assistance to Zerto continuous data protection software, which now integrates with Microsoft Defender for real-time threat monitoring and accelerated disaster recovery.
The enhanced Data Fabric software (V8.1) for X10000 connects edge facilities, colocation sites, core data centers and major public clouds. It features a global namespace, multi-protocol access and automated data management. Key upgrades include policy-driven data tiering, conversational AI analytics, optimized metadata classification and Apache Polaris catalog compatibility for Iceberg table governance.
The platform enables real-time object migration across S3-compliant storage systems, eliminating slow manual batch transfers. It accelerates data ingestion for AI teams and improves inference efficiency.
